When you get your PCS orders

When you get your PCS orders

When you have received your Permanent Change of Station (PCS) orders, what is your next move? When you get your PCS orders, just remember to stay calm and get organized.  Keep these ideas in mind.

Meet with your base transportation office

Make an appointment with the government office that will be handling your relocation.  Do this as soon as possible so that you know all of your moving options.  These options might include a DITY military move or a full-service relocation.

Notify the housing office of your moving date

If you are currently living in government quarters, it is a good idea to notify the housing office as soon as you can of your projected moving date.  This is also a good time to figure out what the rules are regarding your move, such as your cleaning responsibilities.

Talk to the family center at the new base

As soon as you know where you are going to move to and when, reach out to the family center at your new location.  The family center should offer some sort of relocation assistance program and can help you learn more about your new community.

Get in touch with your finance office

Because moving can get expensive, get in touch with the finance office at your current location.  The finance office can help you figure out what your options are as far as moving and if you are eligible for any relocation benefits.

Plan your move

You can use a moving checklist to prepare for your move.  This is a great way to stay organized and remember all the little things.  If you do not know where to start, simply check online for a sample checklist.
