Worst films of 2013 crowned at the Razzie’s

The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation has stolen the weekend’s Oscar thunder by rewarding the less-than-stellar achievements of the movie industry during 2013.  At the 34th Annual Razzie Awards on Saturday night the big ‘winner’ was the sketch comedy anthology Movie 43, which was crowned the worst motion picture of last year.

The creators of the film were rewarded with a generous spread of awards – its 19 writers took the Worst Screenplay prize, with the Worst Director prize being shared among its 13 directors.  The science fiction film After Earth, which starred father and son Will and Jaden Smith, also came in for a hammering during the evening, taking home three Razzies.  Jaden was awarded Worst Actor, Will won Worst Supporting Actor, and together they were declared to be the Worst Screen Combo of last year.

Also making a strong showing at the Razzie Awards was Tyler Perry, who took home the Worst Actress gong for her performance as the eponymous matriarch in A Madea Christmas, while Kim Kardashian was awarded Worst Supporting Actress for her role in Tyler Perry’s Temptation.  The worst remake/rip-off or sequel was judged to be the critically-mauled The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp.

The gold spray-painted trophies were given out at Hollywood’s Ignited Spaces during an hour-long ceremony.  The Razzies were first awarded back in 1980 and are determined by Internet votes from RottenTomatoes.com users and members of the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation.
