A few more storage tips

If you need to consider storage services offered by your moving company, regardless of whether you are using the service on a long-term basis, you need to plan your packing accordingly.

Remember that boxes are likely to be stacked on top of each other and for this reason you need to make sure that each box is filled to capacity. Boxes that are only half-filled will be crushed if something is placed on top of them. Put as much as you can into the box without overloading it and make sure that any gaps are filled with padding such as foam peanuts.

There is nothing wrong with getting a little creative with your moving company storage facilities; for example, if you have a wardrobe that cannot be dismantled then you can ask for all the boxes marked ‘fragile’ to be stacked within it so they have additional protection.

The same thing applies to drawers. Even if you dismantle the dresser, the drawers will remain in one piece and can be used to store items that you put into the storage unit. Fill each drawer with whatever you want to store and then seal it to ensure that nothing falls out. You can use bubble wrap or a sheet of plastic to do this. Make sure that the protection is securely taped into place so that nothing falls out during transit.

If the moving company storage space is limited then your moving company will be able to offer you tips on how to make the most of the available space.
