Packing China and Crystal for Storage

Packing China and Crystal for Storage

Okay, so you’re getting ready to pack up your belongings and move into a new home.  Proper packing can prevent your valuables from getting damaged, or even ruined, in transit.  So, it is very important that you know what you’re doing – especially if you are not hiring a moving company to do the packing for you.

Packing will always accompany the relocation process, but did you also know that you need to pack your china and crystal properly even if you are placing the boxes in a storage facility?  This is true whether you are placing your stuff in a self-storage facility or a full-service storage unit.  No matter what, your breakables need to be prepared correctly.

So, what do you do?  As you get ready to start packing your china and crystal, go ahead and make a list of the stuff you’ll need to get the job done correctly: bubble wrap, packing peanuts, tape, markers and sturdy boxes.  Most moving companies even sell specialized boxes designed specifically for china and crystal.

Wrap each of your pieces individually so that they are sufficiently protected.  Fill the voids in the box with the packing peanuts.  It is a good idea to avoid newsprint so that the ink does not rub off onto your valuable crystal and china dishes.

Before you deposit your belongings at the storage facility, you do need to make sure that you’ve clearly labeled the boxes.  If not, you may have a hard time when requesting access to your storage unit – especially if management needs to access the boxes for you.
