Let’s face it; no matter how much planning you put into a move, there is always a chance that something could go wrong. And yes, it can even happen when you send your shipment through the DP3 program during relocation. So, how do you go about filing a claim if your shipment was moved under the DP3 program?
It’s not as hard as you might think. First of all, when your shipment is delivered, you and the delivering agent will work together to record any lost or damaged items. This will typically be done on the “Notification of Loss/Damage AT Delivery” form. The form will allow you to list anything that was lost or damaged during the relocation shipment.
If you discover that something is missing or damaged after you’ve unpacked, you do need to report the incident as soon as possible. In fact, you will need to fill out the “Notification of Loss/Damage AFTER Delivery” form. You can also enter this information into the DPS yourself. Just remember, you have only 75 days from the delivery of your relocation shipment to report such issues.
It is never fun when you have to file a claim due to damage caused during a move. So, if you shipped your belongings for your relocation under the DP3 program, you absolutely have to file your claim through the DPS system. As long as you follow proper protocol, you will likely be able to receive a reimbursement of the full replacement value.
