Frank Lloyd Wright House Sells for $4.4 Million

The famous Ennis House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, has recently sold.  We’ve been told that a billionaire architecture enthusiast home purchased this designer house, but we don’t know whether he will move in.

The Ennis House is actually quite famous, even to those not particularly interested in architecture and design.  It is a textile block home of 6,200 square feet and it really does resemble a Mayan temple.  The billionaire who bought the home, Ron Burkle, paid just under $4.5 million for the house.

Burkle didn’t buy the house right away.  The Los Feliz house went on the market back in 2009.  At the time, the home was maintained by a non-profit organization that was tasked with keeping the home up.  The Ennis House needed quite a few renovations and the non-profit decided to put it on the market and move on.

Renovations are necessary on the house because of earthquake damage suffered in the mid-1990s.  Originally, the non-profit was asking $15 million and had no bites.  That all changed when Burkle moved in on the property and paid a significantly lower price.

You may not realize it, but the Ennis House has been featured in many television shows and movies, perhaps most famously in “Blade Runner” as Harrison Ford’s futuristic apartment.

As part of the sale, the non-profit required that Burkle have the house open to the public at least 12 days a year.  So, maybe he will move out for those 12 days.
