If you are getting ready to move, you may find yourself in need of a storage solution.  Perhaps your new home will not be available before you must move out of your current home.  What do you do with all of your stuff?  Full-Service or Self-storage is an ideal solution for many situations.  Here are some tips and tricks to doing it yourself.  If it is Full-Service location, when was the last time they were inspected?

Choosing a Storage Facility

Before you actually choose a storage facility, think about where it is located.  If you will be visiting it often, you may want it to be close to your current or new home.  Additionally, check for smoke detectors, sprinklers, and other security devices.  While you inspect the facility, you may also want to check for water damage and pest infestations.

Protecting Your Stored Belongings

Storing your possessions can definitely get them out of your way while you are in the process of relocating, but you need to make sure you protect your things.  When you load up the storage unit lay blankets or plastic sheeting between furniture to prevent dust and scratches.  If you are storing bicycles and tools, you may also want to use a rust protector.

Fitting Everything In

When storing appliances it is a good idea to make sure they are clean and dry before storage.  If you have smaller objects that can fit inside, use the space just be sure to leave the doors slightly open.  For the rest of your possessions, disassemble what you can.  Stacking chairs and storing tables top-down are also good ways to save space.
