Setting Things Up on Moving Day

Setting Things Up on Moving Day

We know it is easy to get overwhelmed when moving, so we hope our suggestions of what to set up that first day in your new home help make the day go a little easier.

Large Furniture

No matter who is doing the unloading of the moving truck, you still need to know where you want your large pieces of furniture– at least which rooms they go in.  Your best bet is to actually map this out before moving day so there is no question.  If you hire full-service moving company, they will do it all for you!

Large Appliances

Whether you’ve moved with your appliances or bought new ones, you definitely want to get these installed and set up right away.  It’s a good idea to check the manuals before doing anything so that you hook them up correctly – especially your fridge!

Assemble Essential Furniture

While you don’t have to assemble all of your furniture on the first day, you will definitely want to set up your beds.  This way, you have a place to sleep that night after all your hard work moving.  In fact, it might be a good idea to set up the beds even before the appliances if you think you might run out of time.  After all, you can’t sleep on the stove!

Unpack the Essentials Box

When you move, it is a good idea to have an essentials box.  This box will contain everything you need for the first night in your new home – a change of clothes, toiletries, bedding, phone chargers, and all the basics.  It will be the key to your survival that first night.

Make Up the Beds

Once you’ve set up the beds and unpack your essentials box, it’s time to get the bedding ready.  This is probably going to be your favorite part of the day – make up the beds and then hop in!
