The key to finding a good moving company is to know where to look. Who wants to hire a moving company only to wonder if they’ll ever see their stuff again? Don’t risk hiring a rogue moving company – here are ten ways to find a trustworthy mover quickly.
- Call the local regulatory office to verify the moving company’s license.
- Check the Better Business Bureau (BBB) for any constant complaints against the moving company.
- Find out if the movers carry Worker’s Compensation insurance.
- Does the business address of the moving company actually exist?
- Don’t fall for the high-pressure tactics of telemarketing calls.
- Avoid dealing with a moving company that has sales representatives that tell stories about other moving companies.
- Check last year’s Yellow Pages (in the phonebook or online). Was that moving company listed then?
- You should be able to speak to or meet the owner of the moving company if you ask.
- Get a recommendation from a friend, colleague or neighbor.
- Ask the company if they belong to the local trade association.
Obviously you’ll want a moving company that is licensed and registered to work within your state. If you are moving across state lines, do a little deeper digging on the company to make sure they are able to handle the move. If you don’t feel comfortable with any aspect of the transaction, don’t do it!
