Stretch wrap is a thin material made from plastic, which is often used as packing material for moving. Moving companies use stretch wrap to protect furniture from dirt, scratches, and grease. Because stretch wrap only sticks to itself, there will be no trace of it left behind when you unpack everything. While most people forego the stretch wrap, we believe it is the best and most cost-effective ways to protect your furniture during your move.
Thoroughly Clean Your Furniture
Before you use the stretch wrap, you need to make sure that your furniture is clean and dry. Any dirt or moisture that is trapped within the wrap can cause damage to your furniture. Vacuum any upholstered furniture thoroughly and then wipe it down with a damp cloth. Ensure that it fully dries before applying the stretch wrap. If you own leather furniture, vacuum it thoroughly and then use a solution of soap and water before using a leather conditioner to keep the material moisturized and flexible during the move.
Dismantle Your Furniture
Before wrapping, make sure to completely dismantle and disassemble your furniture. Remove any parts that can be safely taken apart and keep them in a Ziploc bag. Attach or include the bag of parts close to the piece of furniture so it doesn’t get lost in the shuffle. If you think you may forget about how to put the piece of furniture back together, take a short video of you taking it apart. That way later on you can refer to your video when you arrive at your new home.
Tightly Wrap It Around
When wrapping larger furniture, hold the roll and walk around the item so that the material unwraps as you go. Place cardboard or foam on the corners of each heavier item to offer a little extra protection when your moving company is moving your furniture. The wrap can also be used on cabinets to make sure that drawers and doors are kept in place and do not open while the items are in transit.
