Who’s Protecting Your Interests When You Move the Office?

Any business owner or manager knows that an office move can create quite an upset in production if not conducted properly.  Therefore, ensuring that your commercial relocation deal is done while protecting your business’ interests is essential.  So, how do you accomplish this goal?

There are a number of things that you can do to ensure that you avoid the biggest office relocation error – that of not protecting your interests.  Here are some suggestions you might want to take note of:

Employment & Legal Considerations

When you decide to relocate your business, there may be legal issues you need to consider.  Do you need new permits?  How will your employees be dealt with?  If there are contractual agreements, you must ensure that everything is on track.

Property Issues

Your office equipment and furniture must be moved from one office to another.  Part of protecting your interests in this aspect is to hire a reputable moving company.  Additionally, you may consider taking out moving insurance, beyond that which is covered by the movers, in case of loss or damage during the relocation.

When in Doubt

If you have any doubt about how you need to be protected during a commercial relocation, seek legal counsel.  It is always better to be on the safe side.  Remember, it is never a good idea to sign any contract you don’t understand.  Read all contracts very carefully!
