Moving is one of the most stressful experiences that you can go through, but the good news is that you can make sure that both you and your family are prepared for the relocation by planning ahead and making sure that you are fully organized.
A couple of months prior to the move you should get hold of the floor plan for your new home and make a decision about which of your household items you intend to take with you. You should come up with an inventory of all your household items and then get hold of estimates from various professional moving companies. Ask your insurance agent about your homeowners’ policy in order to establish whether your possessions will be covered during the relocation process.
You should also create a file in which you can safely keep all your moving papers and receipts, make arrangements to transfer your child’s school records, and make a final decision about which professional moving company you intend to go with.
About a month or so before you move you should start packing, check out the health professionals in your new local area, and fill out change of address cards with your post office. At this point you should also start to use up any overstocks you may have of various staple foods so that you do not have to go to the hassle and expense of taking them with you.
