Advice when moving home

Once you have come up with a detailed checklist for moving, taken an inventory of all your possessions and planned out each and every detail of your relocation, you might wonder what there is left for you to do; however, there are a number of things you might have overlooked. One good tip to remember is to make sure that you have kept additional cash on hand.  It is a good idea to have extra money available in the event that some unforeseen minor emergency takes place, such as unexpected plumbing issues in your new home, having to stay overnight in a hotel if you are moving long distance, or being charged more than the initial estimate by your moving company.

One thing you should also plan for is the very first night you will spend inside your new home.  There is a very high probability that you will end up spending all day, including the evening, engaged in the relocation process; however, there is little chance that you will be all settled in when you are ready to go to sleep.  This is why it is a good idea to set aside a suitcase or box in which you have placed all the items that you will need for your first day in your new home and have it labeled accordingly.

This suitcase or box should include toiletries, a change of clothing, cooking utensils and bedding in order to make sure that you will be able to get a comfortable night’s sleep.
