Preparing for your relocation

Preparing for your relocation

You should create a moving checklist prior to your relocation, which helps you to be confident and prepared when the day of the move finally arrives.  The list should be started between six and eight weeks beforehand, as it needs to be written up in phases to reflect the various things that you will need to do.

Six to eight weeks prior to the day of the move is the time that you need to start getting organized, so create a list of everything that needs to be accomplished before the relocation.  Catalog your belongings and decide which you want to move with you and which you no longer need or want; these items can be sold, given or thrown away.

This is also the time to reserve the services of a professional moving company, if you have not already done so.  You need to make sure that both you and your moving company have enough time to get everything organized by setting a moving date that suits both parties.  If you have children then this is the time to get their medical and school histories and transfers in order, and this is also the time to inform your insurance companies, bank, post office and work of your impending change of address.

Packing up your home can result in the environment becoming somewhat chaotic, so it is important to make sure that you have a lock box or some other safe place in which you can store important documents and valuables.
