Do you live in New Zealand? Have you ever thought of moving there? Well, if you do ever relocate to Australia’s neighbor, you might step into your home and get a very cute and very unusual surprise, just like Annette Swoffer got last week.
Swoffer lives in a waterfront home in a residential area that also has a number of busy roads. However, that didn’t stop a baby seal from wandering from the bay, across the road, under a gate, and through a cat door right into Swofffer’s kitchen! He eventually made it up the stairs and onto a sofa! Talk about an unwanted roommate moving in!
Well, actually Swoffer probably wouldn’t have minded keeping the seal. She did tell the New Zealand Herald that the baby seal was so cute with his “huge brown eyes.” The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the SPCA, came to pick up the pup later that night.
Apparently, the baby seal may have recently been weaned and decided to move on to bigger and better things! Most baby seals are on their own throughout the day while mom searches for food. This little guy is a fur seal, which is a species that has only recently begun to increase in numbers.
If you ever find a baby seal in your kitchen, it is a good idea to call the authorities immediately. Remember, they may be adorable, but they can harbor disease. So, if you do decide to move to a location where there are seals, you know what to do!
