DeLorenzo’s Pizza has made a move from its premises on Hamilton Avenue, where it has been for many years. The Trenton restaurant, which has become famous for its tomato pies, closed its doors on Saturday night at 8.45pm, says owner Rick DeLorenzo.
Pizza lovers are going to have wait another two weeks before the restaurant reopens at the end of this month in its new location following the move to Sloan Avenue at I-295, which is about five miles away. “We are going to move a lot of stuff over to the new place,” DeLorenzo says.
Customers were out in force in the last few days of operation at the old location, soaking up the atmosphere. “I’m going to miss this place, but I think it’s time,” acknowledged Columbus woman Dee Reisner, who was there with her husband Ron.
The other famous DeLorenzo’s, which is located in Trenton, closed its doors early in 2012 and was owned by Alexander ‘Chick’ DeLorenzo, Rick’s uncle. The Hudson Street restaurant was passed down to Eileen DeLorenzo, Alexander’s daughter, and husband Gary Amico, with the pair owning the restaurant up until its closure.
Rick DeLorenzo, meanwhile, says that he aims to bring everything from the old restaurant to the new one and that the relocation was inevitable due to the fact that the last decade has seen a mass exodus from the city. “We hung in there as long as we could,” he notes.
