The Subway restaurant situated in Tower Place in Cincinnati is to move to the Carew Tower space formerly occupied by Tazza Mia in around two weeks’ time.
Subway is the last remaining tenant of Tower Place, with the former mall remaining open despite the cost to taxpayers of around $40,000 per month. There is a lot of cut-through traffic in Tower Place; pedestrians will still be able to walk through after the exit of Subway, according to city economic development analyst Stephen Dronen. He says that Tower Place has to stay open because it is the emergency exit for the Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza, which is attached to it.
The Subway restaurant, which is currently located in Tower Place’s food court, is expected to reopen in another couple of weeks in the Carew Tower, according to the owner of the restaurant, Harnish Patel. The restaurant is making a move into the space that was last occupied by Tazza Mia and offers street access from Vine adjacent to the entrance to the Carew Tower.
The brand new restaurant will be the very first Metro design Subway in the area, and Patel says that the relocation is costing him around $100,000.
Tower Place is being sold to Brook Lane Holdings Inc by the city, with the intention of it being converted into a garage with some retail space at street level. Due diligence is to be completed by the end of the year, with the council paying the operating costs, such as security and lighting, until the deal is closed.
