Businesses have begun moving from Stafford County’s Falmouth intersection as the Virginia Department of Transportation commences preparations to start demolition work. Hearth and patio products retailer Blazes recently had to move out of the space that it has been occupying for the last quarter of a century at the intersection between US 1, US 17 and Butler Road. The firm reopened this Monday after relocation to its former warehouse, which is situated nearby at 19 Baron Park Road.
Brokerage firm Potomac Realty Inc, which was situated near to the intersection on Butler Road, is likewise having new office space in Spotsylvania County on State Road 13 near BJ’s Wholesale Club. Jim Wicker, the owner of the firm, says that the property he was formerly in has now been acquired by the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The Virginia Department of Transportation paid around $1.3 million in May for a former bank property consisting of 1.5 acres of land at the Falmouth intersection, which was previously owned by Silver Cos chief executive office Larry Silver, and intends to ultimately own 27 properties as part of the $25 million project that intends to widen the intersection with eight new turn lanes. This project should reduce waiting time at the intersection to just one minute in 2016.
Demolition work on the buildings is expected to begin in November, according to Tina Bundy, the spokeswoman for the Virginia Department of Transportation.
