Moving house is something that many people have done before, in which case they will know what to expect; however, what if your house move is the first one you have had to organize yourself? Where do you start when it comes to hiring professional movers?
First of all, don’t think that you have to hire the first moving company that comes along. This is not the case at all. You can take your time ‒ if you have plenty of time, that is ‒ and talk to a number of different companies if you so desire.
Finding a moving company is fairly easy and often all you have to do is ask around. There will be people within your circle of family and friends who have moved within the last year or two who will be happy to recommend a company that they had a good experience with. They will also be happy to point out which companies they did not like and which they think you should avoid.
If you don’t get any recommendations in this way, simply pick up the Yellow Pages or do a quick search online and talk to a few local companies. Make sure that the company can offer you exactly what you want, such as the right distance move, a packing service if you need it, and even storage if you have a delay between homes.
Don’t forget to check online to make sure that your moving company is properly registered and accredited to the various governing bodies, as this will give you peace of mind.
