Moving tips are always helpful when people are in the process of having to pack up their entire home. There are many ways in which you can make your move a good deal smoother and easier by using a few simple tips. One of those tips is the height of simplicity – make a list. Writing everything down is something that is incredibly easy to do and can prove to be very useful indeed. A simple record keeping system should be created before you so much as pack one single box. Come up with a list of numbers, assign them to boxes, and then write the contents of those boxes on your list.
Another good tip is to make sure that you have lots of supplies. You probably can’t imagine how many boxes you are actually going to need for your move, but it will be a lot. If you can purchase your boxes via a moving company you might be able to return any that you do not make use of so that you can get a refund. Around ten boxes should be set aside for last minute use on the day of the move for items such as bedding, cleaning supplies and clothing. You will also need some very strong plastic tape so that you can close the boxes up securely. Make use of unprinted newsprint, packing papers or bubble wrap in order to wrap up and cushion your household goods. You will invariably need more supplies than you might think, so the best way to make sure that the packing goes as smoothly as possible is to get extras; after all, any supplies that are not used can always be returned once the moving truck has left.
Another good tip is to make use of wardrobe boxes. These tall boxes are ideal for lightweight, bulky items such as blankets, comforters and pillows, in addition to all those items of clothing that need to stay in a hanging position. Contact your moving company and ask about the width of the wardrobe boxes that it can supply and then measure your clothes to see how many you will require. They can also be used for shoe boxes, closet storage boxes and other bulky goods such as gift wrap tubes, fabric bolts and large baskets, although you should remember not to make the boxes too heavy for people to actually lift.
Your moving company will most likely be only too happy to deliver boxes for you to use before the day of the move. On the other hand, if you intend to move yourself then it is even more important to make certain that you are organized in advance. Several days prior to the move you should fill some shopping bags with sturdy handles with bulky closet items such as belts, jeans, shoes and sweaters, then place these bags at the bottom of your wardrobe boxes on moving day.
