Anyone who is moving should have a checklist of things that need to be done, which can be checked off once those tasks have been completed. Military moving is no different in this respect.
The first stage of a military move is the planning, and there are a number of things that need to be done in this phase. You should get a hold of the brochure entitled Ready to Move, as well as the booklet with the moniker Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move. It is always a good idea to ask your friends, relatives and neighbors if they can recommend a moving company and to obtain estimates from at least three such firms. You should also make certain that the moving company has a USDOT number and is registered with FMCSA.
On military moving day, you should make sure that you are there so that you will be able to give directions to the movers and answer any questions they may have, and you should not leave until the job is done. Before the movers leave, you should take one last look through your house in order to make sure that there has not been anything accidentally left behind. The company and driver should also be informed of your whereabouts during the duration of the move.
On military delivery day, you should pay the driver prior to the unloading of the goods and supervise both the unloading and the unpacking of your belongings.
