How to move your office over the holidays

When office leases expire at the end of the year, this can result in additional pressure being brought to bear on both employers and employees during the holidays.  Companies that use the calendar year as their fiscal year can often find themselves with leases that commence on January 1st.

Although this certainly helps to make life easier for the accounting department, it can cause a great deal of stress when the time comes that the lease is over and a new office location needs to be found. The good news, however, is that there are a number of distinct steps that can be taken to make sure that the office will stay calm and peaceful during this difficult time.

One of the most important steps is to make sure that you have planned ahead.  The sooner you have found a new office to move to and signed a lease, the longer you will have to get the physical relocation arranged. The great majority of office leases tend to expire at the end of the month and an even higher percentage will expire at the close of the year, so make sure that you have scheduled your moving company as soon as you can in order to assure its availability.

You should not forget that a number of working days are always lost at this time of the year because of Christmas and New Year’s Day. Another good tip is that the moment your space plan has been completed you should order furniture to ensure that it will be ready in time.
