In the last few days leading up to your house move there are a few tasks that you simply cannot avoid completing if you want the process to go smoothly.
First of all make sure that you have packed your ‘essentials’ box a few days before the move. Leaving this until the last minute could mean that some of the items you want to include have already been packed into other boxes, which could lead to chaos when you get to your new home.
You need to make arrangements to move and store the items that your professional movers will not handle. Each mover is different but each will give you a list of items that cannot be taken on the moving truck. Some movers will not handle houseplants, for example, and you might need to find a friend or relative who can take these to your new home for you or store them until you can pick them up.
You will need to defrost both the fridge and the freezer and this should be done a couple of days before the move so that the appliances are ready when your moving company arrives. Don’t forget to clean them properly once they are defrosted; in this way, when you get to your new home all you have to do is plug them in.
The day before your move make sure that every member of the family has charged their cell phone ‒ if people are going to be traveling separately, you need to make sure that you can get hold of them whenever you need to.
