Make your move greener

Cutting down on your carbon footprint can be a challenging endeavor at the best of times and especially when you are in the middle of a move.  Moving uses dozens of cardboard boxes, Styrofoam packing peanuts, rolls of packing tape and reams of plastic bubble wrap.

It can seem impossible to be able to stay green and move at the same time, but there are some simple steps that can be taken to make sure that your relocation can be as environmentally friendly as possible.  You can choose to make use of boxes that have been used recently by someone else, for example, rather than buy new ones, or use recycled plastic bins instead.  These bins can then be used yet again for the purpose of storage or can be given away to somebody else who is making a move.  Another option is to use boxes that have been manufactured from recycled materials.

As well as boxes, other relocation materials can be harmful to the environment; however, greener decisions can be made.  Rather than use Styrofoam peanuts or plastic bubble wrap you can choose alternatives that are biodegradable, which are often made from cornstarch or vegetable oil.  These are renewable resources and break down quickly.

Recycled paper can also be utilized to wrap dishes and other kitchen supplies, while the likes of clothing, bedding and linens can be used to wrap up your breakable items and thus remove the need to purchase further packing materials.
