Moving to a brand new apartment is an exciting experience for both you and your pet, but it can also be stressful and overwhelming for the pair of you. The good news, however, is that there are methods of ensuring that relocating with your pet goes as smoothly and simply as possible.
Whether you are making a move with a cat or a dog, you need to introduce your pet to a carrier very gradually so that they will be comfortable and familiar with it when you begin your journey. The carrier should be left out several weeks in advance in order to encourage your dog or cat to go inside and explore. A dog treat or catnip can even be left inside to increase their desire to investigate.
You need to make sure that the crate has plenty of ventilation and is strong and sturdy. If it is a cat that you are taking with you on the relocation then you will want to make sure you put a small litter tray inside the carrier. Dogs or cats should never be allowed to run free inside a car. A dog might stick its head out of the window and be hit by flying debris, while a cat could climb onto the dashboard or under the seats and endanger the driver.
Rather than packing up everything related to your pet, you should make certain that you have some of its food and any necessary medication on hand just in case.
