You may think that an inventory is not necessary; however, this is one of the most helpful things you can have when you are moving house. An inventory is a way for you to keep track of what is in each box and it should feature heavily on your planning checklist.
Don’t think that you have to write down every single item that goes into the box, as this will take forever. Simply write down the groups of items; for example, when you are packing up the contents of the kitchen drawers you can simply write ‘contents of the cutlery drawer’, which will tell you that your knives, forks, spoons and other utensils can be found in this particular box.
The same applies in other rooms; for example, you can pack boxes in your bathroom and identify them as ‘contents of the medicine cabinet’ and ‘general toiletries’. Make sure that you note on the inventory the number of the box that these items have gone into. You could simply label the box ‘bathroom’ and with your inventory to hand you will know exactly where to find your Elastoplast if you need it.
Once your professional movers have completed their work you can then easily locate everything you need. Keep your inventory with you all day, as you never know when it is going to come in useful. It is also handy if you pack up your things in advance, as you can then easily locate something when you need it and then return it to the right box.
