After you have cared for plants for several years you may wish to take many of them to your new home. The good news is there are some smart tips to follow that can help you to do so successfully.
A week or two prior to the move you should check with your moving company that it is willing to move plants. Some companies might not accept plants especially if you are moving long distance. The risk of damage or loss to plants is high, as plants are perishable, living things that require comfortable temperatures, light and air. If your moving company is unwilling to move your plants then you will have to make other arrangements.
If you are moving to another country then you should check out that country’s regulations and rules with regard to the importation of plant life.
Plants in clay pots should be moved into unbreakable plastic containers, using plant food and potting compost to increase their chances of survival. Check them for mildew, insects or signs of disease; treat them appropriately if these are discovered in order to prevent any contamination of the plant life at your new home after relocation.
