We know that Earth Day was back in April, but we don’t think you should stop thinking about the environment simply because it’s a new month! In the last couple of years, we’ve noticed that people aren’t just hiring moving companies and relocating to new homes – they are moving into energy-efficient homes.
Did you know that there is a way to tell how environmentally sustainable a particular home is? Well, there is. In fact, there are certain design elements that will indicate that a particular house is greener than another. If you are interested in moving into a green home, you should be looking for structures that have living spaces and windows that face the rising sun. This provides plenty of free energy and light.
Another thing to look for when moving into a green home is the window placements and overhangs. A strategically placed window overhang will ensure that a house doesn’t get too hot from the bright sun throughout the day. This allows for less use of expensive air conditioning solutions.
It is also worth mentioning that smaller homes tend to be more energy efficient. So, if you can comfortably downsize and move into a smaller home, do it. You’ll find that you’re spending less on utilities each month.
While these aren’t all the tips you could ever use when considering moving into a green home, it is a good start. Let us know if you have any tips to share!
