Moving with young children

Moving with young children

Statistics prove that young couples who have started or intend to start a family are very likely to move home; however, the upheaval that relocation can cause can make it difficult if you are making a move with a small child in tow.

In these circumstances, it is important to establish that you are moving to somewhere that is a good neighborhood for kids and that there is a good school nearby.  Young couples who moved in together in a place where the most important factor was being close to restaurants and bars will now find themselves wanting to move to a home adjacent to playgrounds and parks.  You should walk around the neighborhood you are thinking of moving to and see what the local topography and level of street noise is like.

You will want to be somewhere that has a number of places to go for family outings.  These can be pretty simple, such as playgrounds, the water’s edge by the harbor or nature reserve, or coffee shops.  It is also never too early to begin thinking about schools.  If you are not ready to purchase a new home outright, renting in a place you may one day want to make a firmer commitment to, and where your child will be with the same kids in daycare, pre-school and then public school, can be a very good idea.

If you feel good about your new home after relocation, your children will also feel good.  Accentuate the positive at all times.
