Organizing your office relocation

Organizing your office relocation

It is a good idea to begin planning your office relocation around 12 weeks prior to the day of the move to ensure that all employees are ready for the change.  Companies need to make sure that there is minimal disruption to the office and to its employees during the move, as a poorly-planned relocation can adversely affect revenue and reduce efficiency by creating unnecessary anxiety within the firm.  To avoid this, preparation is key.

The first step you need to take is to have a number of office moving companies visit your office and provide an estimate.  You need to think about the date you would prefer to move on – most office moving companies will be able to move you on a weekend to avoid interrupting the working week.

Confirm that your moving company is able to manage and move electronic and workstation equipment and make sure that you get references and ask the right questions so you are confident the company you hire is fully experienced and capable of moving an office.  You should also visit the office space that you are moving to and take measurements to ensure everything will fit.

It is also a good idea to come up with a floor plan for the layout of your office equipment and desks in the new space.  Remember that bigger items such as desks, filing cabinets and printers need space around them so that people can move their chairs, open drawers etc.
