Sean Whelan has made 12 round trips between Dulles and Nashville. He is the chief financial officer for Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Already the company has undergone an office move for its IT, human resources, administrative and billing jobs. These jobs have been moved from New York, Washington, Texas and other states. They all have Nashville as a destination. The office move is half way through its 18 month long process.
The company did state that its lawyer services are not going to move to Nashville, but all other departments will be based in the professional services center. Some of the employees have been given packages to move to the new offices, while other jobs have been created. Whelan and one other officer have been conducting interviews in Nashville to fill the open spots. This is not the first time an office move such as this has occurred for companies in the US. There are many companies that undergo changes, and often they decide to leave their lawyers separated from the main service offices.
O’Melveny and Myers cut 76 staff members last year with its office move. The good news about the Pillsbury business is the addition of jobs. It is bringing more employment to Nashville, which will help the city’s economy. It is not the only reason the jobs are being moved there, but it is definitely a helping factor in getting the permission to move to the facility and the choice of Nashville.
