However, putting a car into storage for an extended period of time can actually cause damage if you don’t prepare properly. Should You Put Something Under the Car?
You don’t have to put anything under your car when placing it in storage if you only plan to leave it there for a temporary period. If you are considering long-term storage, you might want to avoid placing the car on the concrete floor only.
When putting your car into long-term storage, one of the best things to do is to put it up on jack stands. Jack stands (a set of four with hydraulics) can usually be purchased fairly cheaply from a variety of retailers. The jacks prevent flat spots on your tires and allow for easy access to the undercarriage.
Jack stands are usually your best bet for long-term vehicle storage. As we mentioned, you can buy them fairly cheaply from almost anywhere, but if you get a better quality jack stand, the safer your car will be. If you are on a tight budget and still need to put your car into long-term storage, you can even use large bricks. The bricks will have the same effect as the jack stand and will help prevent the tires from rotting while the car is in storage.
