It is not often that a star of the caliber of Angela Lansbury takes to the stage outside Broadway or London’s West End; however, the star of TV’s Murder She Wrote will soon be on stage in Los Angeles for a six-week run of Blithe Spirit, a play by Noel Coward.
The play will be staged at the Ahmanson Theater in LA and is the story of a medium who manages to call forward the ghost of a writer’s wife. The 89-year-old star will be playing the part of the medium, which is a role that she has played before. Back in 2009 the play was staged on Broadway and then early in 2014 it was staged in London’s West End.
Ms. Lansbury says that she is relishing the opportunity to take on the role again, as it is very different to her TV role of Jessica Fletcher. She describes playing the TV sleuth as requiring very little acting ability, while the role of Madame Arcati needs more imagination as an actor.
Those who want to catch the play will not necessarily have to make the trip to Los Angeles, as there are plans for a tour: it will be staged in San Francisco before moving on to Toronto and then Washington DC. Tickets are sure to sell like hot cakes and it is therefore a good idea to make sure you obtain them now before it is too late.
