We’re about three-quarters through National Moving Month and summer is almost upon us. So, we’ve got to think about getting our homes in order for the hot summer months. These tips may also help you prepare your house if you are considering relocating in the near future.
Service Your Cooling System
Before the summer hits, give your air conditioner a good servicing. Clean or change the filter, but always follow the manufacturer’s instructions. If you’re using a window unit, give it a good cleaning when you take it out of storage. Doing so will save you money in the long run since you’ll be keeping algae, mildew, and mold from forming.
Give Your Furnace a Rest
Before closing up your furnace for the summer, check the filter for dirt. Vacuum and clean the openings, grilles, and ventilation areas of the furnace. Just remember to check your user’s manual if you are looking to do it yourself or better still, it might be a good idea to get a professional to come out and service it.
Don’t Forget the Vacuum Cleaner
Now is a good time to clean out your vacuum cleaner and replace the bags. This way, you won’t be releasing dust and allergens back into your home when you do your spring cleaning. A clean vacuum will also help you move through the household chores a lot quicker.
Wash the Windows and Repair Screens
Now is a good time to wash the windows, window coverings, and repair the screens. During the spring, you’ll likely have the windows and doors open more frequently, so screens are important for keeping out the pesky bugs.
