When you move offices it is tempting simply to throw everything in boxes and go, but you are likely to find that there are plenty of things that you can simply get rid of. It should be noted that you do need to be careful, however, as there may be things that you no longer use that you have to keep.
Old paperwork is an area where many people try to be ruthless before an office move but it may be that you have to keep old invoices and other paperwork for legal reasons for a certain amount of time. As requirements vary for different documents, it is worth checking this in advance because any mistake could be costly.
Maybe you have a large archive of old trade magazines. Do you really need to keep them all? While it looks great that you have been in the business for so long, the older magazines are surely out of date. A few weeks before your move check these magazines over and only pack the ones that are relevant to your business now; the rest you can recycle.
A good clear out of the stationery closet is also in order. Why pay your professional office movers to take away old pens and your old letterheads, which are no good to you once you have moved, when you can dispose of them long before the day of the move? It only takes a little planning to be ready for your office move; therefore, start early and you will only have to move the things you really need.
