From May 20th-23rd you can visit the San Diego Surf Film Festival. Tickets range from $5 to $100 and the festival has plenty to suit all tastes.
The festival’s aim is to recognize the lives and achievements of those who have chosen to do something a little different, focusing on the work of independent film-makers and the different ways in which they celebrate the sport of surfing. The films all include surfing in their subject matter and the film-makers come from all over the world.
The community of San Diego is ocean-loving and many of the top names in surfing have spent time on the coast here, including Curren, Dobson, Roper, Divine, Kenvin and Van Artsdalen. There are 75 miles of great coastline here that appeal to surfers and many enthusiasts have come here to spend time perfecting their sport.
There will be more than 20 films at the 2015 festival and many directors, actors and producers will be in attendance. Visitors can attend screenings, Q&A sessions, workshops and film-maker panels; in addition, there will be an art gallery dedicated to surfing, live music, the opportunity to meet surfing legends, and beach clean-up operations. There will also be live music and plenty of partying going on at this year’s event.
Showings and events are taking place at a number of different locations across the city and more details can be found on the official website.
