If you have a cat then there can be concerns when it comes to moving house. Cats are famously territorial and they can feel unsettled with the arrival of the moving company; however, there are a few things you can do to help the process to run smoothly.
First of all put the cat into one room before the moving company arrives so it is not unsettled by the constant moving around. It is also important to make sure that the cat has access to all its usual things, such as food, water and litter tray, and the door and window should be kept shut.
If you have a large pet cage that you intend to use to move the cat from one home to another then the cat can be placed within this cage to keep it contained and to prevent it escaping; if you do not have a cage, make sure that there is a note on the door to stop anybody opening it.
It is important that you do not try to move house with your cat by placing it in the removal van. This will be distressing for the cat, particularly if it is going to be a long journey. The cat should be in a pet carrier or cage in the car with you and on a long journey you need to make sure that the cat has regular access to water and a litter tray. You should also ensure that the car is well-ventilated and that no pet is left alone inside a hot car.
