Is your house big? Maybe, but you do not know what big is until you see the house that Jackie and David Siegel are building in Orlando, Florida.
Tucked away in The Reserve at Lake Butler Sound, the Siegels are building what would be the biggest house in America – right in the middle of a subdivision made for mansions. The average house in the neighborhood is about 10,000 square feet. The house the Siegels are building will be around 90,000 square feet.
The house will rest on ten acres of lakefront property and will actually take up one full acre itself. Because the Siegels always wanted to move into a house on a hill, they had one made. When the house is finished – and it will not be for a while – it will be the largest home in the entire country. They want to call it Versailles.
Made of concrete and Italian marble, the monstrous house will also feature 20-foot-high Brazilian mahogany doors to match the 160 window frames. Those alone cost about $4 million. Other features will include a great room with a 45-foot-high ceiling, stained glass, sweeping staircases, ballrooms (yes more than one), a 20,000-bottle wine cellar, nine kitchens, 22 bathrooms, and 13 bedrooms. Oh, and a movie theatre, computer center, stage, fitness center, spa, and staff quarters.
For now, construction has stopped because the Siegels, like many other American families, have been hit hard by the economy. They have put the unfinished behemoth of a house on the market – for $65 million. Do you want to move in?
