Moving is difficult on anyone, especially those in the military. In an effort to make things a little easier, the US government developed the DP3, or the Defense Personal Property Program. The DP3 has an online system that is designed to help manage household goods, known as the Defense Property Program (DPS).
Both the DP3 and DPS benefit military families that are required to move to new bases. These systems are extremely user friendly and do not require a trip to the Transportation Office because everything is done online. Families can track their relocation shipment, file claims online, and even settle directly with the moving company through this platform. Additionally, for military families that have received their PCS orders, full replacement value coverage is now available instead of depreciated value, which was offered previously.
In order to make sure that your family can benefit from the DPS, you must log in through the Electronic Transportation Acquisition site to get started. You will be required to have a valid civilian email address before trying to log in. Government and military email accounts are not accepted. This will allow you access to the system and its self-counseling module.
Although you do not really have to use the DPS during your military move, it might be in your best interest. This way, you know that you, your family and all your stuff are all protected as much as possible.
