When you move, one of the last things on your mind may be to change your address with the post office. While this is actually a very important thing to remember, many people forget during the whirlwind of relocation. Well, the USPS has made it a little easier for us by implementing the Telephone Change of Address.
The Telephone Change of Address, also known as the TCOA, is easily done from any location! Just dial 1-800-ASK-USPS and submit your domestic change of address. And don’t worry about your private relocation information being exposed; the system is secure as well as convenient.
In an effort to keep things secure, the USPS requires that you use a valid credit or debit card when filing the TCOA. They charge you just $1, so it isn’t incredibly expensive. The card is used to electronically verify the information you enter. If you don’t want to pay a dollar for your change of address, you can still use the online system or complete the change of address form at the post office. Just remember to allow enough time for the transaction to take effect before you move.
It is important to change your address with the USPS before you move to ensure that you don’t miss any important pieces of mail. The USPS mail forwarding service is beneficial, but remember, you should also change your address with all of your accounts, banks, and other subscriptions as well.
